One of the youngest of the vocal gospel groups in Memphis, they formed around 1975. Despite this fact, they hold closely to the traditional style of the gospel vocal quartet. This is primarily due to the influence of their leader, Elijah Ruffin. A staunch traditionalist, Ruffin also trained two members of the group, Herchell McDonald and McClendon Cox. The group was best known for being active at smaller performances, often performing at rest homes and senior citizens centers several times per month alongside the Harps of Melody. They were all members of the Church of Christ, whose songs are always performed without instrumental accompaniment.
